Landscape Lighting That Brings Your Backyard to Life at Night

Good landscape lighting does three things: it makes your property beautiful after dark, it makes it safer to move around, and it lets you enjoy the outdoor spaces you’ve invested in long after sunset.

Overview

Light the landscape, not the sky.

Thoughtful landscape lighting is layered. Uplights graze a specimen tree or a textured wall; downlights mounted high in trees create soft moonlight effects; path lights guide people safely; and accent lights pick out planting and architectural details. The goal is depth and atmosphere, not floodlit glare.

Modern LED fixtures and low-voltage systems are efficient and long-lasting, and smart transformers and controls let you schedule scenes or adjust lighting from your phone. We design lighting as part of your outdoor space, coordinating with pathway lighting, patio lighting and pergola lighting.

Planning & installation

Designing a lighting plan.

Less is more. A few well-placed fixtures usually look better than many bright ones. Warm color temperatures feel more natural and inviting in residential gardens.

Glare and neighbors. Shielded fixtures and careful aiming keep light where you want it and out of neighbors’ windows and the night sky.

Electrical work. Low-voltage lighting runs from a transformer plugged into or wired to an outdoor-rated power source. New circuits, outlets, line-voltage fixtures and connections to your electrical panel must be performed by a licensed electrician and may require an electrical permit. We’ll explain what your design needs and how that work will be handled.

Cost factors. Number and type of fixtures, transformer and controls, wiring distances, hardscape trenching and any electrical work.

FAQ

Common questions.

Still have questions? Call (747) 344-7727.

Most residential landscape lighting is low-voltage, powered by a transformer. Line-voltage fixtures and new circuits must be installed by a licensed electrician.

Warm white (around 2700K–3000K) is popular for residential landscapes because it flatters plants, stone and wood.

Many modern transformers and controllers offer timers and app-based control with zones and scenes.

Shielded fixtures, careful aiming and modest brightness keep light on your property.
