A BBQ island is the backbone of any outdoor cooking space. Straight, L-shaped or U-shaped, with or without bar seating, we design and build islands that look great and work hard.
Overview
An island’s shape determines how you’ll move while cooking and how guests gather. A straight island is compact and works against a wall or fence. An L-shape adds prep space and a natural bar overhang. A U-shape creates a full cooking station for serious entertainers.
Islands can be built with non-combustible framing and finished in stucco, stacked stone, tile, porcelain or concrete to complement your home and hardscape. Planning ahead for the grill, side burner, refrigerator, sink and storage ensures every cut-out and utility run is in the right place.

Planning & installation
Appliances first. Select appliances before construction so cut-outs, clearances and utilities are built correctly.
Foundation. Islands are heavy; they need a stable base such as a suitable slab or footing.
Countertop overhangs. Bar overhangs need proper support, especially with stone.
Gas, electrical and plumbing. Grills, side burners, refrigerators, lighting and sinks need utilities. Gas lines, new electrical circuits and plumbing must be installed by appropriately licensed professionals and typically require permits. We’ll explain what your design needs and how that work will be handled before anything is built.
Cost factors. Size and shape, framing, finishes, countertops, appliances and utility work.
Permits. Outdoor kitchens with gas, electrical or plumbing connections generally require permits, and covered structures may too. Requirements vary between the City of Los Angeles, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and other jurisdictions.
