Studio City divides naturally into two worlds. North of Ventura Boulevard, flat, tree-lined streets like those in the Colfax Meadows area hold ranch homes, bungalows and remodeled mid-century houses with conventional backyards. South of the boulevard, homes climb into the Santa Monica Mountains on sloping, sometimes dramatic lots with views over the Valley.
Flat-lot projects are often about shade and gathering: patio covers, kitchens and lighting. Hillside projects tend to focus on creating level, usable space and making the most of views, with decks, pergolas and careful attention to engineering, access and fire safety.
